Board Meeting Minutes - April 23d, 2022

Red Rock Lake Association
Board Meeting Minutes, April 23, 2022

Members Present: Gary Waller, Dave Zabel, Roger McCannon, Bob Bowden,
Marsha Parrish. Also attending: Lyle Roesner, Richard Pautsch and Terry Miller.

1. Carp Removal: The entire meeting was devoted to this topic.
Terry Miller, Commercial Fisherman presented a lot of information on his
business of seining Carp. It's complicated and competitive and hard to distill
everything he presented, but he said that much of the Eastern Food Market for
Carp is gone, and what's there usually coincides with just a couple of ethnic
holidays. Also, a processing plant in Spirit Lake, Iowa has closed down, as well as a
facility in the Alexandria, MN area. And, there's stiff competition for equipment
he needs (semi trucks with aerated tanks) by other commercial fishing operations
from the eastern part of our state, as well as the coordination and transport of
live fish. See the reference: https://www.fish2o.org/aboutus
There is about a two-week, limited time frame for seining in the Spring, from
approximately May 1to Fishing Opener; after that he needs a permit from the
DNR.
Terry said he's seined Red Rock Lake six times, including both winter and
springtime, and would be willing to again if a way to dispose of the Carp could be
found. He estimated his cost to be $3500 to $4500. Transportation costs to New
York usually run about $8000. He will remain on "standby" to come and sein if
everything appears possible.
The Board determined it will look for disposal options, as well as try to seek other
methods.
2. Next Meeting: Saturday May 28, 2022.
Respectfully submitted by Roger McCannon, Secty.
